Whainga ako: write an essay of 300 words about why is a marae important to you.

My marae is important to me because thats where my tupuna come from and thats where my whanau come from too.  My marae is an amazing place to be because it reminds me about where I am from and who i am.  My marae is important because it is a place that brings  everyone back together at lots of different occasions. I get to see all of my cousins when I go to the marae for birthdays, tangi, weddings and visits.  In my marae there are panels on the wall that tells lots of stories that are important to my whanau.  One of the stories is about how my ancestors came to Aotearoa on our waka.  Another story is about how Nukutawhiti’s three taniwha helped our canoe.  Their names were puhi-kaiariki, puhi-taniwharau and puhi-moanariki.  It is fun hearing all the stories and looking at all the panels. My marae reminds me of who I am when I look at all the photos on the walls of all the people who have passed on.  My mum’s nana is one of the photos.  Her name is the same as my mum’s name TeAhua.  My marae is a really cool place because when we go there we sing waiata, do the haka and do lots of cool things.  When i walk into my marae it feels peaceful and amazing because it makes me feel different and it makes me feel like i belong there.  My marae is a special place to me because it tells me where i am from and what my pepeha is.  It is one of my favourite places to visit because I learn lots about me and about my ancestors and it makes me feel proud to be Maori.

Whainga Ako:write an essay of 300 words about why a marae is important to you.

Kia ora ko Kyra-leiana toku ingoa
My marae is important because it means everything to me. Marae has always been in my mind.My marae is special to me because it is the one place where I can meet my whanau.Marae are so beautiful and gorgeous. My marae is important because no one can  take it away from me. My marae reminds me of people I know that has passed away and people I have been missing along long time. The marae is like my home but old.My marae is the first place that I have known ever since I was a baby. When I get called into my marae I get scared because I dont really know anyone.

My marae is important to me because that's where I belong. Ko Puhangatohora te maunga,Ko Punakitere te awa,Ko Okorihi te Ka mate te kāinga tahi, ka ora te kāinga ruamarae,Ko Ngatokimatawhaorua te waka,Ko Ngapuhi te iwi,Ko Ngati Ueoneone te hapu,Ko Athena raua ko Te Akau Oku matua Ko Kyra-leiana toku ingoa. My marae is the whare that has been the place I would want to live in. My marae is the whare built for me and my whanau that are alive or not. Sometimes when I go to a marae the people that are there don't know we are related. My marae is important because thats where my tupuna comes from and it links me to my family.Okorihi is the number one marae built for me. At my marae its got the marae then an empty square and then the cemetery.

My marae has been burnt down.My marae is the one I have known ever since I was born. My marae is mine forever.

MY QUOTES!!!

Whainga ako: re-write a story based on a video of Aotearoa.
One day Papatuanuku and his brothers when out into the big deep blue sea. They paddled and paddled until it went rough and rougher no one would ever want to go fishing with them. They were very dangers. .So they saw a shark they killed it  very hard and then they made  sharks bones into a spare they tried to kill some fish to eat. They missed the fishes and then the spares dropped to the bottom of the ocean then the biggest wave appeared from nowhere they tried to paddle and paddle away but it was after them. Then they looked very very close at the wave then they found out it was Tangaroa was trying to kill Papatuanuku and his brothers.so the brothers paddle and paddle as fast as they can well Papatuanuku made more spares but when he was throwing the spares the spares didn’t hurt Tangaroa so they were very scared then...Ahhh they yelled Tangaroa bulled them over off there waka and then Tangaroa felt very bad  for trying to kill them. Then Papatuanuku and his brothers came up still alive and climbed back on to there waka.

So they paddle and paddle home down bye the Hikurangi  mountain and they sat and sat until Tangaroa went away. Then Tangaroa thought that they were very scared so Tangaroa laughed and laughed then Tangaroa said out loud ‘I have killed your whanau so you better come out and face your fear’.Papatuanuku was mad that's why they were missing on Saturday. So Papatuanuku and his brothers came out and faced there fear and Papatuanuku and his brothers yelled out and said ‘’come and have a challenge and if you lose you leave us alone’’and then Tangaroa replied ‘and if you lose i kill you ok’ ‘’they both said Deal’’.Tangaroa said to Papatuanuku and his brothers ‘’come start’’. They fighted and fighted all night then when Papatuanuku got  that right punch Tangaroa was down. Then… Papatuanuku was so happy then Tangaroa said ‘’i’m back’’Then Papatuanuku came back up and kept going. They throw spears swords shooted guns shark bones and there fish bones.Papatuanuku and his brothers were very scared because if they lose  Tangaroa will kill them and they won’t have a choice. But they still kept going they did not stop but then… AHHHHHHHH STOP Tangaroa picked them up and drowned. Then 10 minutes later...Tangaroa thought they were dead so he stumbled  off. Then Papatuanuku and brothers came back up from under the water. And they all said together ‘’he is gone yay yay now we are safe’’ so Papatuanuku and his brothers went home and they were all safe and Tangaroa did not know that they were alive Papatuanuku and his brother were happy.

31.03.14     Whainga Ako: re-write a story from Aotearoa video.

In the beginning there were 10 Maori soldiers and the bravest most serious soldier his name was Maui. Before Maui and the 10 maori soldiers existed tanemahuta pushed Ranginui apart from Papatuanuku. One afternoon they all thought of rowing their waka because they have been working so hard. So they went rowing, they were getting tired and then a big wave came by and almost washed their waka away. They were trying to paddle to land they `were saying “hoe hoe hoe” faster faster. They got back, all of the 10 soldiers thanked Maui by getting all of things that he liked.

All of the 10 Maori soldiers and Maui went and found them a place to live in.So they set off and went hunting, they went and met at the same place as where they had started. They all said “if we cant find a place to live why dont we just make one” they all agreed with it.They all found some pices of broken branches and sticks. They all knew that their parents will be all right because their parents went to find them some food but when they went they saw a beutifull place called Auckland. In the evenning the 10 maori soldiers and Maui were getting hungry by talking about it but they had nun something fell outside of their house they buit and it was...Some fruit. There were oranges, lemonns, apples.Somthing gave them good luck because there were a basket full of seeds. Then the next day Maui’s brothers wanted to go paddeling but they didnt want Maui to go with them so they wispperd saying “we will go paddeling but dont let Maui know about what we are doing” Maui had good hearing skills. So he woke up before his brothers so he could go with them.So they went out to sea while Mauis brothers were a sleep Maui keft on paddeling untill they saw no land.Maui said “this is where we are fishing today” Maui’s brothers said to Maui “you cant use our lines” maui said “it’s alright i got mine” it was from his mothers jaw bone it wasn’t just a hook it was a special hook.He swang his hook then he threw it in the water he was pulling  untill it came out .he was pulling harder and harder.he pulled it out  and it wasn’t a fish it was land. When land came there came marae, trees, food.

They all knew not to be mean to Maui because Maui was the one who gave them all of the land.Papatuanuku,Ranginui, Maui and his brothers lived happily ever after.
